Change The World Wednesday

Welcome to Change The World Wednesday! If you're new to our challenges, click HERE to read all about them.

This week's challenge comes from our friend, Amy, at The Wayland Springs Cook. Since this seems to be the time of year when a lot of people get their cars ready for winter ... it seemed like a perfect challenge. Here we go:

This week give your car a little TLC. Check tire pressures and make sure that they are at the manufacturer's recommended levels. Check the air filter and change it if necessary. Fix any oil and/or radiator leaks. Give your car a general "check up" ... a properly running car will minimize it's impact on the earth and it'll keep you safe.

Or ...

Write a post about Eco-friendly transportation. Need a couple of ideas? Consider a post about alternatives to driving, or perhaps an article on how to minimize the environmental impact of using a car.

So what do you think? Is it doable?

How did you do on last week's challenge to buy recycled? As the challenge pointed out, there needs to be a "strong aftermarket for products made from recycled content". That idea was driven home to me when I visited my favorite computer recycling store and found that it had closed it's doors ... there just weren't enough people interested in buying "recycled". So I urge you to continue with that challenge and make it a point to choose recycled versions of everything whenever possible.

Let's take a look at this week's Honor Society:

  1. I so need to do this. Whenever I do a carbon footprint calculator one of the questions is about tyre pressure and maintenence. I'm ashamed to say i NEVER check my tyre pressure unless I suspect a problem.

    Not good.

Anyway, I shall definitely do this this week - not sure about the rest of it; my car engine looks so compact and complex, but perhaps I can smile at a friendly neighbour who can help out!

I did an update of last week's 'close the loop' challenge; and found something very exciting in our Health food shop to help me :)

  4. There'll be use of those 'household' items (or recycling junk from the garage) over the coming weeks... had to change plans at the last minute for today and make christmas decorations (instead of buying them) with my son to keep him occupied!

A tip for next week (one that is close to my heart):

ZERO food wastage! Get into creative cooking with left overs and only buying what we need to feed the family. Often we have more in the pantry than we realise!
And for Mums - that doesn't mean we have to eat the kids' leftovers off their plates ;-)

  8. Hi Small! Sorry I have been MIA for a few weeks, being a full time mom and not working actually seems to leave me with less free time...no more baby-free lunch hours to blog :)

This challenge is something I've been meaning to blog about for a while now so it was a good kick in the pants for me to get off my butt and do it:
