Welcome to Monday ... and our next daily challenge:
Notice what food you throw away this week. See if you can reduce it by a third. Eat leftovers and shop more carefully using a list and planning your meals. The amount of food thrown away by an average household adds the equivalent CO2 emissions of 1-5 cars.
Until tomorrow ...
WE'RE CHANGING THE WORLD ... ONE CHALLENGE AT A TIME!
No food gets thrown away. I rarely cook more than I need and if I do, I have an effective disposal unit... da Meow, he'll eat anything.

I'm actually about to clean out my fridge today. Slightly afraid of that half-eaten can of black beans that has been in there for several weeks. This time I think I'll try labeling leftovers so I get around to eating the ones that are older first.
ReplyDeleteThe statistics for thrown away food are appalling! Most of the time I purchase small amounts of food & pick up things with minimal packaging. Fruits and veggies for the win!
ReplyDeleteThrowing food away is outlawed in my house and if it does happen it is very little. With the price of food going through the roof we simply can't afford to waste food. We usually cook enough for a meal or a meal and lunch the next day. We typically purchase food in bulk and then freeze it in meal ready portions.
ReplyDeleteGreat challenges! Thanks for following Mommy Time Out
ReplyDeleteWhile I waste very little in preparing food (I even save chicken bones for making soup) I *do* have a problem with leftovers. I need a system for cleaning out the fridge weekly or something. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteI Love the Leftovers but I am a forgetful lover!
funny, i was just eating some salmon and my dog always gets the skin and i thought, we are efficient eaters! between she and i and the compost pile, nothin' gets tossed - ever. now, if they could only change the laws so we could bring our own containers to the meat/fish/deli counters, i could eliminate the packaging they force you to take!!
ReplyDeleteI try so hard to not throw away food. We always eat our leftovers! And Eli usually loves to eat leftovers the next day!

Great post! We always eat our leftovers but sometimes we do have so many that other things get wasted. I am trying really hard to fix this though and am currently reading a great book on composting. Looking forward to this for spring!
