Ready for a new challenge? Here you go:
Reduce water usage in your home by fixing leaky faucets, which can waste up to 50 gallons a day. Turn the tap off and on during shaving, washing hands and brushing teeth. (You can save a gallon of water while washing hands, 9 ½ gallons brushing teeth, and up to 19 while shaving by turning the water on and off.) Only flush the toilet when absolutely necessary. Most toilets use about 5 to 8 liters of water every time you flush. You can reduce this by placing a milk jug filled with water inside the tank. If you need to replace your toilet, buy an energy efficient model that uses less than two gallons of water and consider purchasing dual flush toilet

I love my Toto dual flush toilet! (way cheaper than Caroma - I think mine was $275?) It's .8 / 1.6 gal per flush and seems to have MORE power than my old yucky one. Re: shaving, I do it in the shower, using my extra suds from my shampoo rather than buy special shaving gel (which is full of chemicals) - have been doing this since college and the bonus? Razor lasts longer as it doesn't get clogged with goo :)
ReplyDeleteI've been using rainwater, shower water and dishwater for flushing, cleaning nad plantwatering since dec. 2009. And then only flush when necessary. last Nov came the surprise, my water bill was almost cut in half!
ReplyDeleteAgree with EcoGrrl shaving in the shower is the best, wet skin is enough and a good razor lasts forever.
Showed it before but here's my helper to collect water, my rain barrel once more:

While we didn't buy a dual-flush toilet, we did replace two toilets in the house last year. We remodeled each bathroom and while there was nothing wrong with them, didn't like the water wasted. Both new toilets are low flow and really reduces the water usage. While I don't like not flushing after each use, the husband doesn't mind not flushing. haha
