#CTWW - Daily Challenge for 4/1/11

Happy April 1st! Here's your challenge:

Consider the carbon impact of having a fire in your fireplace. Think about adding a fireplace fan, insert, or high-efficiency wood or pellet stove. Clean your chimney at least once a year. The EPA compared emissions from real logs and five brand name artificial logs and found that fake logs had 75 percent less emissions than real wood. They also warm your house more efficiently since they burn longer and hotter.

See you tomorrow ...

WE'RE CHANGING THE WORLD ... ONE CHALLENGE AT A TIME!

  1. We don't even use our fireplace. haha! It was converted to gas, but after we moved in we could smell the gas, so we had the lines capped off. Now we can't use it at all until we get the lines removed. It's interesting that the fake wood would be better though.

  2. I win again! No fireplace... To have a fireplace in Rio, you'd have to be insane.

Interestingly enough, in Christchurch, NZ open fireplaces in houses have been banned for more that 15 years. The fireplace at my mother's house is now purely ornamental, she's all electric in the winter.

  4. I am blessed with living in Auckland where it is quite warm. Winter goes down to 5 degrees. I wear warm, and have thick curtains. We use a heater when it is really really cold.

Yes, I make my own wheat heat bag. They are wonderful.
