Today's challenge is up:
Give away unwanted and unused possessions to a local second hand store or organization. This is a great way to reuse things and stop them from going into a landfill.
Bonus: Organize a recycling event for your religious group, workplace or local community to exchange possessions that are no longer needed.
"See" you tomorrow:
WE'RE CHANGING THE WORLD ... ONE CHALLENGE AT A TIME!
ahh, Earth Week. i love the reuse and repurpose side of being green - or in my case in 2 weeks, resell! collected stuff in my house all winter and am just waiting for a sunny saturday to spread it on the lawn for sale!! regarding giving away to nonprofits, i encourage folks to do research to find out where their stuff goes - goodwill is known for often sending our donations to other countries rather than make them available for resale in our communities like we assume. there are some amazing local nonprofits here in pdx like community warehouse that collect the housewares & furniture we don't want - this week i've got a linen collection going at my work as part of the earth week festivities i'm coordinating - SO awesome to see people gathering their gently used sheets and towels to support low income families who are starting anew (CW makes care packages). :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! My family does this every six months or so.
ReplyDeleteThis past weekend my neighborhood had a community wide garage sale where the entire neighborhood cleaned out the attics for the day. So much good stuff to be bought and re-used. It was a huge success, and they are planning on doing it again next year!
my girlfriends and I held a fund-raiser after we had been collecting and saving goods from people around our community! After our sale was over and we did had lots of goods left a friend of mine came and picked up a lot of it to take and use for her garage sale later this summer to help her raise money for the adoption of her ethiopian baby! I love recycle and reusing and of course reducing is always awesome too! I believe so many people live with too much "stuff" and its much easier to live with less stuff!

I always feel great doing this. I love to declutter. My goal is to someday stop accumulating the clutter in the first place! I am currently blogging about Spring Cleaning - taking areas at a time. Where appropriate I am giving information on where to donate:

I am currently going through the kids toys. I am motivating them to help by letting them split the money we make from the yard sale next weekend. Actually our town has 2 town wide yard sale per year. I have been on both selling and buying ends - they are great!
