Save Energy, Save Money is Australia’s first energy and price comparison website. Julie Moore, the site's co-founder and director, gives readers all the energy information necessary to make informed decisions. For example, in a recent post entitled Rechargeable V’s non rechargeable batteries & recycling them she shows the setup and running cost of each kind of battery. The bottom line was fascinating and might surprise you. The tabs across the top of the blog offer annual running cost comparisons of things like ovens, computer monitors, televisions, etc. While the information is focused on products available in Australia, I recognized many brands and found the information helpful. My favorite tab is "Green Living". I found tips for each season of the year, an article on understanding energy ratings, and ideas on how we can green up our work environments. A very cool feature on the site is the search button. Just type in your favorite brand of just about anything and it will return with a list of products. Click on a product and you'll find energy ratings and costs. I took a look at Panasonic front-loading washing machines and learned that the most efficient models cost approximately $0.18 per cycle. If you live in Australia, you'll love the green product and service recommendations in the last section of the site. Save Energy, Save Money has a lot to offer everyone. If you have a few minutes, check them out ... I'm betting that you'll find some interesting information.

This month, Random.org chose Garry Rogers Nature Conservation as our featured blog. I first "met" Garry via Tribber. His articles captured my attention because many of them spoke about animals. When we think about endangered species, we typically think about elephants, rhinos, polar bears, and whales. While Garry does speak to the plight of these beautiful creatures, he also draws attention to some of the lesser known species like the pangolin (sometimes called the "walking artichoke"), the spiny dogfish , and a very cute little cat called a kodkod. In addition to endangered species, readers will find posts on animal rights and welfare. I was particularly interested in a recent article about circus animals and why circuses should be banned immediately ... it'll make you see events under the "big top" differently. Conservation is not just about animals. Garry presents information on fracking, solar use, sunflowers, and what to do with the blackened woodland left behind after a wildfire. Garry Rogers Nature Conservation is a bit like a quality news network ... it gathers together pertinent, timely, conservation news and serves it to us in a straightforward manner. It is an excellent resource!

Eco Thrifty Living, this week's featured blog, is owned and authored by Zoe Morrison. I love this blog ... it's a bit like visiting with a good neighbor and discussing day-to-day life. Zoe takes us into her confidence, sharing her thoughts, concerns and the interesting things she learns. For example, in a post entitled Homegrown shower and shaving gel! she has an "Ah Ha" moment with her Aloe Vera plants. In What to do with chapped or dry lips? she reveals that she was using petroleum jelly on her lips before discovering the associated health risks. She went on to learn that her lips, given the opportunity, could moisturize themselves. If you have solar panels, you might be interested in How to keep an eye on the efficiency of your solar panels! I found recipes, instructions on how to make an herb planter out of pallets and several ideas for Eco-friendly gift giving. One of my favorite sections of this blog is the Budgeting page. Zoe was determined to slash her family's budget and, as she puts it, "thrive, not just survive". She has set up a table which includes the items she targeted, a bit about the changes she's made, and the savings realized. One of the more dramatic savings (£270.00/$400.41) involved growing herbs, vegetables and tea rather than buying it. Amazing! Eco Thrifty Living is a terrific blog with diverse content. If you have a moment, sit down with Zoe ... you'll come away with useful ideas and a lot to think about.

Jennifer, owner and author at Slightly Hippie Housewife of Suburbia, describes herself by saying "I’m just a girl who likes to play in the dirt." An artist, blogger, mom and wife, she focuses on a life of happiness ... one which includes loving the earth and being healthy. One of the first posts I came across was about several things Jennifer has quit ... she talks about giving up the microwave, sugar, wheat and smoking (yay). In a series entitled Foodie Friday, I found information about eating local and healthy. Another series, Tuesday Tip includes information about what's in your toothpaste and deodorant and even offers a do-it-yourself recipe for making non-toxic deodorant. Those living in the "burbs" will find A Day in the Life: Suburban Balance very interesting. Slightly Hippie Housewife of Suburbia is a relatively new blog but it's already packed with interesting, useful content. I'm placing myself on Jennifer's emailing list because I think she's going to have plenty to share with (and teach) us!

Last week we opened our link-up to include social networks. Random.org chose one of my favorite Pinterest pages, Kristina @ The Greening Of Westford. Pinterest, for those who are unfamiliar with the site, allows users to create and manage theme-based photos. Each photo is linked to the website where it was originally posted and usually includes an article with more information. Kristina has 64 boards (aka themes) including DIY Cleaners, Upcycling, Easy Eco Tips, and even a board of Kristina's recommended films with important movies like Unacceptable Levels: A Film About the Chemicals in Our Bodies and How They Got There, Vegucated and The World According to Monsanto. I found recipes (vegetarian, smoothies, poultry, etc.), DIY cough syrup, and information on recycling "weird" items (worn-out flip flops, wine corks and dentures). A visually stunning page, Kristina @ The Greening Of Westford offers readers a wealth of green information. One word of caution: plan to spend some time when you visit ... it's just that good!
