Before we meet the featured blog, I have a programming note:  This will be the last Meet & Greet of 2014.  I'll be taking my annual hiatus beginning on November 27, 2014, and will return on January 19, 2015.  Our next Meet & Greet will be in February.

This month, I have the pleasure of introducing you to Au Naturale, a new, green-living blog authored by my friend, Inge'. You might know Inge' from her other blog, Dementia for 2. She began her new blog with a post about no-dig gardening ... it's fascinating! She's gone on to write about fair-trade coffee, chemical-free weed killer, Change The World Wednesday, and a most interesting post on Willow Water, a natural root planting hormone. Each post is well written and informative. Au Naturale promises to become a wonderful resource for Eco-friendly living. I encourage you to support this new blog ... stop by, read, join her site, and sign up for email updates. You won't be sorry!

Meet & Greet (#MtaGt) - October - Save Energy, Save Money

Save Energy, Save Money is Australia’s first energy and price comparison website. Julie Moore, the site's co-founder and director, gives readers all the energy information necessary to make informed decisions. For example, in a recent post entitled Rechargeable V’s non rechargeable batteries & recycling them she shows the setup and running cost of each kind of battery. The bottom line was fascinating and might surprise you. The tabs across the top of the blog offer annual running cost comparisons of things like ovens, computer monitors, televisions, etc. While the information is focused on products available in Australia, I recognized many brands and found the information helpful. My favorite tab is "Green Living". I found tips for each season of the year, an article on understanding energy ratings, and ideas on how we can green up our work environments. A very cool feature on the site is the search button. Just type in your favorite brand of just about anything and it will return with a list of products. Click on a product and you'll find energy ratings and costs. I took a look at Panasonic front-loading washing machines and learned that the most efficient models cost approximately $0.18 per cycle. If you live in Australia, you'll love the green product and service recommendations in the last section of the site. Save Energy, Save Money has a lot to offer everyone. If you have a few minutes, check them out ... I'm betting that you'll find some interesting information.

Meet & Greet (#MtaGt) - September - Green Global Travel

Welcome to Meet & Greet, a regular series designed to grow our green community.

Our featured blog, this month, is Green Global Travel. Co-Founders, Bret & Mary, love to travel. Unlike many tourists, however, they are passionate about trips designed to protect nature and wildlife. They travel in ways which encourage sustainable practices and benefit local indigenous cultures. Readers will find fabulous photos and accounts of their trips to places such as Jordan, Brazil, Tonga, and Nepal. Closer to home they have explored the John Muir Trail in California, nature attractions in Kauai, and (one of my favorites) green restaurants in Asheville. They discuss Eco-friendly accommodations, activities, and even offer their thoughts on so-called environmental tours like swimming with the Dolphins (which, by the way, are bad for these amazing animals). Each post is well-written and offers readers information about how travel can be an important tool in protecting the environment. Green Global Travel is a terrific resource for those planning a trip, thrilling for those who wish to take a virtual vacation, and educational for those who want to preserve nature. I hope you'll stop by and visit ... I think you'll enjoy your stay!
