Meet & Greet (#MtaGt) - September - Green Global Travel

Welcome to Meet & Greet, a regular series designed to grow our green community.

A monthly link-up party for green blogs on Reduce Footprints

The rules:

1. Use the link-up tool below to share your green-living blog or collection of environmental posts.
2. Visit at least one other blog and/or the featured site and leave a pertinent comment.
3. The link-up will remain open for a month.
4. Random.org determines the featured site each month.

Our featured blog, this month, is Green Global Travel. Co-Founders, Bret & Mary, love to travel. Unlike many tourists, however, they are passionate about trips designed to protect nature and wildlife. They travel in ways which encourage sustainable practices and benefit local indigenous cultures. Readers will find fabulous photos and accounts of their trips to places such as Jordan, Brazil, Tonga, and Nepal. Closer to home they have explored the John Muir Trail in California, nature attractions in Kauai, and (one of my favorites) green restaurants in Asheville. They discuss Eco-friendly accommodations, activities, and even offer their thoughts on so-called environmental tours like swimming with the Dolphins (which, by the way, are bad for these amazing animals). Each post is well-written and offers readers information about how travel can be an important tool in protecting the environment. Green Global Travel is a terrific resource for those planning a trip, thrilling for those who wish to take a virtual vacation, and educational for those who want to preserve nature. I hope you'll stop by and visit ... I think you'll enjoy your stay!

Please meet Deborah and her fabulous blog, Urban Naturale. Do you love great recipes, practical tips on green living, and ideas for maintaining health? Perhaps you are looking for creative inspiration, while maintaining an Eco-friendly life ... or you enjoy do-it-yourself projects around the house. Urban Naturale offers this information and more. On Earth Day, Deborah shared 21 easy way to go green. Each suggestion, like #7 about combining shopping trips, has the added benefit of saving us money. One of my favorite sections is under the tab "Doing Good". Deborah takes green living a step further by making our actions not only count for the environment, but for others as well. For example, in a recent post entitled Help Mom “Chill” with Mother’s Day Gifts That Change Lives, readers are encouraged to buy Mother's Day gifts which are fair trade and Eco-friendly, and which are made by women who are struggling to support their families. Brilliant! In addition to great articles, one will find a couple of fun link-ups, Healthy, Happy, Green & Natural Party Blog Hop and Plant Based Potluck Party Link Up. Urban Naturale's content is timely and informative, but what makes this blog truly special is Deborah's enthusiasm and positive outlook. She helps readers feel joyful about walking gently on the earth.

Our featured site, this month, is Jen & Joey Go Green. I've been following (and enjoying) this blog for a long time. Jen (a self-described realistic environmentalist), Joey, and their active toddler, live in Ontario, Canada. Articles cover a wide range of topics. For example, a recent post discussed choosing a guardian for children ... one who will respect your environmental ethics. Another article, about the mineral content of water, shares practical advice for determining whether or not a home needs a water softener. One of my favorite posts, entitled Eliminate Mold Naturally, offers two natural ways to get rid of mold ... one works in about 3 days, the other works in about 2 hours. Jen not only discusses the methods, she includes before and after pictures. Jen & Joey Go Green is a well-written blog offering practical advice. Stop over and check it out ... I'm sure you'll find it interesting.

Edgy, thoughtful, irreverent, educational, entertaining ... these words all describe this week's featured blog, Eco-Crap. Argentum Vulgaris (AV), the blog's owner and author, starts the week out with Monday Moaning, a post which introduces disturbing issues negatively affecting life on earth. On Tuesdays, he presents Simple Green Ideas, a fun series with creative ideas such as making a fairy garden from a broken planter, landscaping with a "clunker" and creating a mailbox from an old computer. On Wednesdays, AV participates in Change The World Wednesday ... his posts typically offer a different slant on our challenges. Thursdays are surprises ... one might find a post on artists who turn trash into works of art or one on what happens when we steal from nature. Make you Fink on Friday presents the weird and unusual ... invasive lady bugs, cockroaches that have changed their taste to evade traps and cooking from compost. Satireday makes us laugh and appreciate the humor in our green life. Nature Ramble, on Sundays, is a great series where AV teaches us a bit about all the various life forms that call earth home. Here's another word that describes Eco-Crap ... honest. AV always tells it like it is ... without compromise or apology. Check it out ... you won't be sorry!

Meet & Greet Monday (#MtaGt) - Creative Adventures

Welcome back to Meet & Greet Monday, a regular series designed to grow our green community.

Last week all Meet & Greet posts were removed from Reduce Footprints to ensure that your page ranks would not be affected by the linky. I have verified that the linky is "no follow" and has no adverse affect on ratings.

But ... it seemed like a good time to make a little change:

We have an updated banner ... it now points to a new Meet & Greet Page. The posts will be listed in chronological order making it easy to go back and revisit blogs.

Okay ... let's pick up where we left off ...

When I ask people how they spread the "green" word, many people say that leading by example works best. Creative Adventures, by La Alicia, seems to epitomize that idea. This blog takes a gentle approach offering readers subtle encouragement. I love the Texture Tuesday photos which often show the beautiful textures found in nature. Recent trips to the Farmer's Market prompted Alicia to share recipes ... yummy dishes made with local, organic produce. Occasional posts, such as one about Fracking, take a serious look at important environmental issues. Scattered throughout this blog, one will find examples of Alicia's Eco-friendly art, beautiful pieces made from upcycled materials. I think that Brett from IAMTHELAB summed up her craft nicely by saying, "We see the mountains of junk mail and paper that pass through our lives on a daily basis, Alicia sees jewelry making gold." Creative Adventures is an inspiring blog ... it whispers to readers, asking that we pay attention ... to our actions and to the world around us. Click over and visit .... I think you'll find much to appreciate!
