How Green Will Your Country Be?

Let's do another survey, shall we? Polls are a great way to open up discussions about issues that affect us all. So, please answer the question and then leave a comment explaining why you chose your answer. Feel free to respond to other people's answers as well.

Let the discussion begin ...

In 10 years do you believe that the country, which you live in, will be implementing more environmental policies?

  1. I do not believe that South Africa will implement more environmental policies within the next 10 years because the government is too entrenched in riding the gravy train and receiving backhands. And until they stop promoting kith and kin, and allow the qualified experts to take their proper position in the workplace - especially in our sole power producing company which has the monopoly - we will continue on the downward and backward spiral.

  2. I'm actually quite undecided - anything is possible. I agree with Dani that the South African government is very happy at the moment at spending tax payer money - and very possibly bribe money from big corporate and mining giants - on whatever pleases them most. However, when looking at a decade, a lot of things can happen, and a revolution is not impossible... Call me a dreamer, call me naive, but I believe that when enough people stand together and demand change that would benefit the majority, then things might shift. The prospect of Fracking is at the moment an enormous risk to the Karoo, and to farms in the area, and there is big opposition to Shell as lead contender for the rights to frack. At the same time farmers in the Northern Cape is being approached with the proposal that power lines leading from a big solar power plant will cross over their land... I think there are many undercurrents that are not being published in the media as much as our politicians spend-thriftiness and corruption, and I really think that the possibilities for our country is endless. Let's spread the word, and get more South Africans aware of the importance of getting environmental policies in place!

  3. I believe that it will be unavoidable to do so no matter what country you live in.

  4. I voted 'no' for Brazil, because I believe the country will continue to pay lip service but not actually do anything. Somethings are happening, like banning plastic bags in some places, but generally Brazil is in the euphoric stage where the middle class is rising and as long as that lasts people are more interested in having, not doing.

  5. I definitely think we'll continue to go more green in the US. It's a big thing here and it's talked about often.
