Are you ready for Earth Hour 2009? As you know, this blog is all about easy ways to reduce our footprint on the earth ... and Earth Hour is one of the easiest, and fun, ways to do that.
On March 28th at 8:30 pm, for one hour, simply turn off your lights.
Simple, right?
Now here's the fun part ... turn Earth Hour into an environmental "holiday". We celebrate all kinds of things throughout the year ... why not a celebration for the earth. Make it fun ... something that you and your family will enjoy ... and will look forward to each year. Here are a few ideas:
-
Pull out those board games which are collecting dust in the closet and play by flashlight ... your kids will love it.
-
Have a romantic, candlelit dinner.
-
Grab some blankets and lounge chairs, head outside, and watch the stars.
-
Prepare some fun foods ahead of time and have a picnic in the living room ... by candle light.
-
Tell ghost stories.
- Do you live in a warm climate? Perhaps close to the beach? Take a moonlight stroll.
-
How about a bubble bath in a candlelit room with soft music from a battery operated CD player.
-
Have a scavenger hunt.
So now it's your turn ... what ideas do you have for celebrating Earth Hour 2009? How creative can you get?
And here are two more things you can do:
- Click over to the Earth Hour site and sign up. You'll be added to their "count" and they'll send you updates on the Earth Hour effort.
- Tell everyone you know and encourage them to participate.
As always ... I'd love to hear from you!

I am so going to try to do this. I said try because my husband willbe home. He is an energy sucker. So I have been thinking about ways I can unplu him and he wont even know!

ReplyDeleteThe new Vote Earth 2009 global website has launched. There is an element on the site that incorporates Google’s Friend Connect and we want to get 1 billion people on the site by November before Copenhagen.
ReplyDeleteTo get involved, all you need to do is:
1. Go to the site - www.voteearth2009.org
2. Register with Friend Connect
3. Send to a friend and get more people to sign up.
We need to get as many people as we can involved. So please encourage your friends to get involved
Get involved and VOTE EARTH!
Thanks for promoting Earth Hour! Another way you can recruit people to the cause is by creating a Earth Hour group on Commit21.com. Simply create a group about one action that you will commit to do for Earth Hour and recruit your friends, family, and co-workers to get involved in that action as well. When it comes to climate change, simple actions can make huge differences and Commit21 leverages social media to influence networks of friends, family, and co-workers. Check it out at www.commit21.com

I remember celebrating Earth Day/Hour when I was a kid in grade school (or atlest some sort of variation of it). It's too bad some school curriculums now a days tend to ignore these kind of events. Rather sad.
ReplyDeleteBut let me see...for Earth Hour this year I think I'm going to spend an hour to hand wash all my clothing and hang dry them all in my basement/or outside if it's Sunny. I'll save some cash on dry cleaning too...:p
Actually, this is the first time I've come across this. Thanks for sharing it! I've just sign up and put their banner at both my blogs too!
