Kicking the habit ...

How are you doing with the current Change The World Wednesday challenge? Good? Bad? Struggling?

Since plastic bags seem to be such a part of life in our society, kicking the habit may be tough. So ... here are a couple of videos to help us along.

With most green living tips, we say Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. But when it comes to plastic bags, we need to say "no thanks".

As always ... I would love to hear from you!

  1. so far so good! twice, I've forgotten my reusable bags so I bought one in the store and the other time I just had 3 things and carried them by hand to the car.

Overall, I would say its not so hard. the stroller helps, too, because I can always throw things in there!

here is my post about plastic bags:

    NO Plastic Bags!!

I added a new post at my site and threw in a couple more videos. I also have the Bio Bags for dog poop & the Bio Produce bags.

Thanks again for keeping us on our toes.

  4. Anyone who is on the fence about using plastic bags should look up "Pacific Gyre" on the Internet. By some estimates, the Pacific Ocean Gyre or "Garbage Patch" covers an area roughly twice the size of the continental United States with as much as 100 million TONS of plastic. This "plastic soup" not only pollutes the beaches our children swim in, it poisons the fish we eat and kills birds and other sea life who mistake it for food. Just think about that the next time you're tempted to say, "Plastic, please."

  5. A great challenge for this week.
No problem here however, I got rid of plastic about 6 months ago. I have a little write-up I will post later this evening on The Road to Here, hope it will help a bit.
    Keep up the good work,

  6. When I committed to the challenge, I was only thinking of grocery bags, and when I opened the refrigerator I was dismayed to see all those bags I hadn't thought about. I haven't gotten any new bags, but I also haven't been to the store for the week. This challenge will push me to make some bags for the mushrooms and other loose produce. I will also look in the store for the corn based poop bags.

  7. after my little slip last Tuesday, I have done very well. Have remembered my own bags, or just carried the goods out with none. Trying to rid ourselves of taking in any plastics at all, but that is easier said than done! berries come in plastic, ziplock bags are plastic...we buy juice in glass bottles only, and try to buy milk in glass only (when the store has it in stock).

  9. This is a great post! I use the reusable bags when I shop, but... I am guilty of using the plastic produce bags. Now I have a more viable option. I love the old t-shirt idea!! I can use my grandson's. What a cool option!

    Thanks for sharing the videos.

  10. I am not a plastic bag person, but some people in my house are, so I found another way to reuse those darn bags. I am fusing them together and then I will sew them together and make door mats out of them.
Yesterday my daughter was looking at all my containers on the counter and she picked one to reuse as a suggestion box for the youth group. Thats my girl!

  11. Im going to reuse the plastic bags I already have til they wear out then change. Won't be long. Thought for today: I'm smart enough to have learned from my mistakes and lucky enough to have survived them. I borrowed that from a blog you visit. She used it in her birthday post. So true
